6 FOR 60! Highlights from the GWILI RAILWAY STEAM GALA, A ONCE IN A GENERATION EVENT! | Part 1

A new one for me yesterday, with a first visit to the Gwili Railway, for their 6 for 60 steam gala! The gala, managed & sponsored by Fox & Edwards Events was billed as a ‘once in a generation event’ being the first appearance of three Great Western Railway locomotives together in steam on this railway line since 1965, the first time a GWR manor has worked on this railway for 37 years, a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the railways line’s closure marking 60 years since the last passenger trains between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen in 1965 and a celebration of Rail 200, the 200th anniversary of the modern rail system’s birth! 7812 ‘Erlestoke Manor’, Small Prairie 5521 in London Transport livery and Pannier Tank 6430 were all in steam, and the event was also last appearance of No. 6430 at an enthusiast event prior to withdrawal from service in May. Part 1 shows the first services on Sunday morning, with a run up the full length of the line behind 7812 ‘Erlestoke Manor’, and a return being London Transport liveried Small Prairie 5521, before Pannier Tank 6430 comes off shed at Bronywdd Arms to join the fun. We explore the yards at Llwyfan Cerrig and see the narrow gauge railway in action with visitng steam engine 1072 'Lady Karen' from Worcester.
