The Trouble With Being Good

Have you learned to become careful, emotionally responsible for everyone else’s comfort, easy to handle, overriding what your body knows? And after a while, you can forget what your own life force even feels like because it's buried underneath all the over-managing. And that, dear one, is the trouble with being good. Being good, the kind many of us were trained into, was never really about virtue. It was the price of admission to belong to the family, the tribe, the system. And in your early life, it worked. It kept you safe. It kept you loved. It kept you in. One day, your innate truth began to threaten that belonging. When you knew in your body you and your presence could no longer be ignored, overridden, or reduced to make it easier for everyone else to accept.
