In facelifted models, the functionality was expanded to include the ability to start the vehicle. Initially, the car could only accept one card with this feature. These cards were fragile and easily damaged, making it difficult to gain access to the vehicle interior. Furthermore, the limited lifespan of the permanently installed battery meant that it was never certain whether the lock would work this time. The feature was activated by pressing the AUTO LOCK button on the card. Once activated, the car recognized the nearby card and allowed the locks to be unlocked by placing a hand behind the door handle, where the optical sensor was located.
