Sentience Approach Incantic's second EP, following human spirit transmutation machine. Sentience Approach began as an attempt at longer, meditative pieces and landed somewhere else, a set of halftime and dubstep tracks that move between stillness and full weight. Built around unconventional bass construction, heavy sound design, and vocals, it meanders through meditative passages and high-energy drops, strange underneath. 1. anjin Atmospheric and drum-heavy, anjin draws on the scene in Shōgun where John Blackthorne survives a storm in a strange land, piloting a ship alone in a place where he doesn't share the language and only his skill as a pilot earns him passage. The bass moves like the creak of a ship's hull and its rigging under strain, set against rich female vocals. The drums pound to keep the oarsmen in line as the ship works its way through the sea. 2. primal vortex The highest-energy track on the EP. A breaks-leaning, sound-design-driven piece that jumps between genres mid-track, restless and dense. The detailed, hyperreal sound design owes something to G Jones. 3. ambulate The longest track here, and the most hypnotic. The bassline is built from delayed kicks pushed toward rumble territory, layered with vocal chops and classic electronic synth tones, shaped by the techno Incantic absorbed in Tokyo's underground. Meditative and forward-moving at once. 4. bad news If acid jazz exists, this is ketamine jazz. A deeper dubstep cut with a grungy bassline, broken up by passages of jazz instrumentation. 5. tension Minimal dubstep made of sounds like electronic water drops. The bassline shifts between slower and faster movement, holding the track in unresolved tension.
