Dragon Quest VII Reimagined - Low Level (Tough Going) Part 2: Glowering Inferno

Challenge playlist:    • Dragon Quest VII Reimagined - Low Level Ha...   3rd major boss and the first battle you can't faceroll. You actually have to pay attention to the boss's attack pattern, the various cues that show which actions are about to follow and how powerful they're going to be. As the boss is quite literally made of molten lava, fire-elemental attacks are going to be no good against it, which is applicable both to Kiefer's and Maribel's attacks. That leaves us with... That's right, no special attacks at all, as the party has been desperately missing job experience to move up to the next rank and learn new skills. Kiefer will have better chances of dishing out okay damage, not to mention inflict critical damage during his pepped up state, but the slime stick that Maribel is holding is seriously the best offensive tool in our arsenal, and we're heavily dependent on the RNG, anxiously hoping for a king slime proc. The boss can attack single-targets with one of its physicals or hit the entire party at once, which will call for greater maintenance - Maribel isn't safe from being picked off at 20 HP or less, for example, and Kiefer is also somewhat fragile with the gear I'm currently packing, and I abstained from buying the most expensive tools, as money is very limited when no random encounters are fought. Glowering Inferno's ways of attacking everybody in the party at once include the fire breath, which is more powerful, and in fact fatal to party members with inferior defences even at max HP, but only when you see the text cue indicating that the boss has mustered "ALL its strength". Unlike the cue that informs you the boss has mustered its strength, without the word "ALL", you must defend with all three party members if you want to continue fighting until the slime stick hopefully does its job. When you do pay attention to that and know how to act on any given turn, few things could, as a matter of fact, go wrong. The worst that could happen is the turn order not unfolding according to plan and the boss getting multiple turns before you manage to heal. Knowing when it's the right time to start attacking and heal is key to success here. If only the next storyline boss were manageable by sticking to a clear strategy alone...
