Yes, Bendy and the Ink Machine seemed born to dominate indie horror. But eight years later, few people still talk about it. And then the question arises: why was Bendy forgotten? A visual that blended horror with old cartoons, that 1930s-style cartoons, and a black and yellow palette that made everything more eerie and striking. It was a perfect combination: nostalgia, mystery, and a lot of style. The result? The game exploded. Everyone wanted to know who Bendy was. He became the symbol of a new type of horror, known as mascot horror. It seemed like nothing could stop the brand's success. Buoyed by its success, the creators decided to expand the brand. In 2018, Bendy in Nightmare Run came out, an endless runner-style mobile game with bosses and playable characters like Bendy, Boris, and Alice. The idea was good: bring the universe to mobile, for quick and fun matches. But... it didn't work. In 2020, the studio tried again. This time, with Boris and the Dark Survival. The idea was different: a top-down, more stealthy view, controlling Boris inside the abandoned studio. It had potential to expand the universe and show another perspective on the story... In 2022, Bendy and the Dark Revival came out, first on PC and then on consoles. And look... technically, the game is incredible. Beautiful graphics, incredible lighting, and refined gameplay—you could see the care taken in every detail. The story is deeper, the combat better, and the puzzles more creative. And depending on how you play, the campaign can last from five to nine hours, which is great for an indie title. It was a high-level return. But, despite the quality, the impact wasn't the same as in 2017. The hype was no longer the same. In 2024, the team released Bendy: Secrets of the Machine, a free spin-off. It served as a bridge between the games, revealing secrets and paving the way for what would come next. It was another step toward keeping the audience engaged and showing that the franchise was still alive. Then came the Bendy: The Cage project. The idea was to make a dark spin-off, set between the Ink Machine and Dark Revival. But in April 2025, the creator himself revealed that the game was being put on hold. The reason? The ideas were too big for a spin-off. So they decided to use all of that in the new main game: Bendy 3. In other words, The Cage isn't dead, it's just changed form. But this kind of announcement confuses the public, creates noise, and disrupts the franchise's momentum. Now, the studio is focused on Bendy 3, also called Bendy and the Ink Factory. There's no release date yet, but the promise is huge: more content, more mechanics, and a story that should tie together everything that came before. If they deliver on their promises, this could be the game that puts Bendy back on the map. There's also Bendy: Lone Wolf, a reimagining of Boris and the Dark Survival. They decided to take that 2020 game and give it a complete overhaul—new content, more action, and a more intense atmosphere. Anyone who owned the original game will get this new version, which shows that the studio has listened to the criticism and wants to make amends. And to top it all off, the Bendy and the Ink Machine movie is coming! Announced in 2023 and confirmed for 2024, directed by André Øvredal, There's no release date yet, but the director's name alone is a strong sign that the project is serious.
