8.97 @ 148 MPH After Losing Dome Pressure | The Day We Finally Hit Our Goal
We finally ran our first 8 second pass in our turbo LS Pontiac Firebird, even after losing dome pressure down track. After a long road of setbacks, testing, suspension changes, transmission issues, and trackside troubleshooting. This was not an easy feat for us. On our first outing back at the drag strip, the very first pass was stopped by a dome pressure sensor failure. The sensor read max voltage the entire pass and triggered a dome pressure safety. We swapped in a spare sensor and went back up, only to hit a battery voltage safety on the second pass when voltage dropped to 11.8 volts. After adjusting the safety, we made our third pass of the night and ran a 5.83 in the 1/8 mile and a 9.186 in the 1/4 mile at 145.55 mph on 19 pounds of boost. At that point we knew the car had the launch and the setup to finally do it. So we came back Sunday targeting 20 pounds of boost and finally broke into the 8s with an 8.97 second pass. Even crazier, the car lost dome pressure after the 1/8 mile and boost fell off to around 13 pounds for the last 2 seconds of the run, but it still got the job done and finally reached our goal. After the pass we found the problem — a boost fitting was not fully grabbing the dome pressure line, causing the dome pressure loss. That means there is still more left in this combo, and this was only the beginning.
