It's a question I've heard for years, and one I've quietly wrestled with myself. While visiting Toronto, I spent the day with Peter McKinnon and custom hat maker Jay Mitchell of Coup de Tête. What started as a visit to Peter's studio and a custom hat fitting turned into a deeper conversation about creativity, craftsmanship, and the role our hands play in the things we create. Throughout the day I photographed everything using a Leica M11-P and Leica 35mm Summilux-M f/1.4, shooting wide open for the entire experience. From documenting Jay's hat-making process to wandering Toronto with Peter, I found myself thinking less about camera gear and more about artistry itself. What makes someone an artist? Is it the medium? The tools? The process? Or is it the intention behind the work? In this video we explore photography, creativity, craftsmanship, Leica photography, rangefinder shooting, manual focus photography, custom hat making, and the pursuit of meaningful creative work.
