Suzuki Ertiga 1.5GL Test Review
Suzuki launched their small, budget 7 seater Ertiga about 4 years ago in SA and since then it has captured a healthy share of this small niche market. For families needing extra space, whether always or only occasionally, to staff transport and even as smaller minibus taxis, the Ertiga can fill all of these needs. Recently, the Ertiga received a facelift with small exterior changes to modernise the looks and far more changes beneath the skin. Increasing the engine size from 1.4 to 1.5L may not sound like much but it feels very significant on the road with outputs of 77kW and 138Nm. On the interior, the much criticised light upholstry and trim have now been replaced with much darker and more practical trim which will certainly look far better after prolonged family use. Secondly, on GL models, a modern touchscreen facility has been added with Apple Carplay and Android Auto functionality. Another neat touch is the extra air-con vents in the rear compartment. Luggage space is very limited in 7 seater format with only 152L, but in 5 seater format this jumps to over 400L. Another option is to only use 1 of the 2 rear seats to allow for extra luggage. On the road, the new engine provides peppy performance even when carrying a full complement of passengers and the 5 speed manual gearbox is light and easy in use. (An automatic option is also available). The overall ride also proved to be very smooth and comfortable both in commuting and on the open road. An area where Suzuki always excels is in fuel economy and, yet again, the Ertiga delivered with an average of 6.4L/ 100km for the full test period. This was achieved with no special effort, so I'm sure most owners will be able to achieve similar economy. Keeping in mind that this is a budget vehicle designed for carrying extra passengers, the Ertiga fulfills its purpose excellently. Priced at R239 900 as tested, there is a mechanically identical base model also available at R214 900. A 4 year/ 60 000km service plan is also included. #Suzuki #SuzukiSouthAfrica #SuzukiErtiga #Budget7seater
