Seoul to Busan Ep.3 | Saejae Mountain Pass to Jeomchon

My first challenge is to cross from the northeastern capital of Seoul to the southeastern port city of Busan, over ancient trading routes, mountains and major rivers. Join me on this journey to see parts of Korean culture and heritage that you won't find in the touristic spots and to find out how far you can get on your own steam. Today I will be crossing the main mountain ridge of the Korean peninsula which separates the province of Chungcheong, where I am, from Gyeongsang. The Seoul region and Gyeongsang have been centres of power on the Korean peninsula for thousands of years, and the mountain passage I will use today has been the preferred overland route throughout that time. I will be following the footsteps of Korean kings, merchants and armies over Ihwaryeong passage and through Mungyeong Saejae, a Joseon era fortification that still stands today.
