However, after the war against the Void ended, these guardians were changed by the horrors they faced, becoming brutal, bloodthirsty creatures, imprisoned within their own weapons. The Rise and Fall of the Darkin Aatrox was originally a great warrior, one of Shurima's foremost generals, fighting valiantly against the Void invasion. Along with their fellow Darkin, they sacrificed much to protect Runeterra. But after their victory, they could not return to normal life. Fear and obsession with the Void transformed them, driving them mad and savage. The Darkin began to cause chaos and war across Runeterra. In order to stop them, the survivors sought to seal the Darkin within the very weapons they once wielded. Aatrox was no exception, trapped within a blade. The Living Blade and the Dying Desire Trapped within the blade, Aatrox endured his imprisonment for millennia. He constantly sought to escape, tricking mortals into taking up the blade, then gradually taking over their bodies and wills. Each time a new host was found, Aatrox used that body to spread destruction and carnage, searching for a greater purpose, a way to free himself from this miserable existence. However, despite taking countless bodies, Aatrox could not find peace. He realized that his constant search and destruction only prolonged his existence. From there, a mad and extreme thought arose in Aatrox's mind: he wanted to destroy everything, including himself, to find eternal release. The World Destroyer Aatrox was no longer a protector. He was a World Destroyer, a being obsessed with destruction and thirsting for his own death. Every swing of his blade brought terrible devastation, reducing the landscape to ash and blood. He roams Runeterra, seeking wars and worthy foes so he can free himself from his eternal curse. Aatrox is the embodiment of tragedy, a hero twisted by pain and despair. He is a constant threat to Runeterra, a reminder of the dangers of corrupted power and the terrible consequences of an unforgotten war.
