Mount Morrone faces the main Maiella mountain range. It has always been a land of hermits; the most famous of them, Pietro del Morrone, became pope under the name Celestine V. The hike is a circular route, starting and ending in Roccacaramanico, a once-abandoned medieval village now undergoing active renovation.
