ep 19 Nanutarra to Port Hedland — Road Trains, Red Dirt & Pilbara Industry

In Episode 19, Biscuit and I leave Nanutarra early and head north through the Pilbara, with Karratha originally planned as our overnight stop. But sometimes the road makes the decision for you. Karratha looked modern, organised and very well funded — a clear reminder that this part of Australia is serious working country, shaped by mining, gas, exports and industry. But after all those quiet roadhouses, open skies and long stretches of nothing much, I wasn’t quite ready to come back into city life. So, with daylight still on our side, we kept rolling. From red dirt and low scrub to road trains, mining trucks, roadworks, salt piles and the world’s largest bulk export port, this leg from Nanutarra to Port Hedland may not be the most scenic video on earth — but it is very much part of the real Australia. We finish up at Discovery Parks Port Hedland, where Biscuit and I found a quiet spot, met a few good people, and enjoyed a couple of sherbets and a yarn with Warren from Christchurch. Thanks for sticking with us on another stretch of the Big Lap at 83.
