Knife attack; teachers fight back; accused gunman pinned by police | 7NEWS

A 15-year-old schoolboy is undergoing emergency surgery after being stabbed by three hooded youths with knives and machetes in Cranbourne South. The attack happened less than 100 metres from the school gate while the victim walked with two friends. He suffered slash wounds to his back, neck, and hands before collapsing on the school oval. The three offenders are still at large. Victorian teachers rejected a pay offer from the state government by just over 51%, with almost 51,000 of 56,000 union members voting against the proposed pay and conditions increase. A 24-hour strike will proceed this Thursday, affecting about 1,600 public schools across Victoria. Some schools will close, while others will offer supervision by non-union teachers. A 29-year-old man, allegedly armed with a shotgun, crashed a stolen Volvo in Pascoe Vale South, Melbourne, triggering a primary school lockdown. The man sideswiped a parked car with a 14-year-old boy inside before crashing into a fence. He allegedly dumped the shotgun and a duffel bag in a nearby laneway before being arrested by police. The stolen vehicle had been taken from a North Melbourne home the previous week. The arrested man was taken to the hospital under police guard.
