Visiting St. Gallen: Switzerland’s City with a 1300 Year Old Library | 98+ Countries with 3 Kids

Join us as we visit St. Gallen - the Swiss city with one of the oldest libraries in the world! Founded by Gallus, an Irish missionary monk, St. Gallen is famous for the Stiftsbezirk, also called the Abbey District. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to the Abbey of Saint Gall, an 8th-century cathedral with a beautiful baroque library filled with medieval manuscripts preserving more than 1,300 years of history! A gateway to Mount Säntis and the Appenzell Alps, St. Gallen is packed with numerous heritage sites of national significance and well-maintained museums. Switzerland is known for some of the world’s best chocolates, and St. Gallen is no different. We got to indulge our sweet tooth at the Chocolarium where we sampled chocolates to our heart's content. We even asked the local people why they love Swiss chocolates so much! We strolled around the car-free streets of Old Town with perfectly preserved medieval houses featuring beautiful oriel windows that decorate the houses. The Abbey Cathedral of St Gall with its ornate sculptures and unique artwork and turquoise color scheme is one of the most amazing grand cathedrals we have ever seen. The next stop was the Abbey Library of St. Gall. Although we were not able to film inside, the tourism board provided us with some beautiful pictures to include in the video.
