Which is the Best Roof Covering? 💣🙋👌 SIMPLE Tips for Choosing Without Making a Mistake SHEET ROOF OR SLAB ROOF In this video, I'm going to tell you which of the two types of roofs I think is best. But so that it's not a decision made "from the heart" or simply based on taste, I'm going to explain the reasons. I want you to know the 5 REASONS why I prefer one roof over the other. Let's agree that every roof requires LAYERS of materials to help insulate against the cold and heat. On sheet metal roofs, these layers are generally installed dry and much more quickly. They also have very little "thermal inertia," meaning they cool very quickly when they stop receiving solar radiation. Beyond the types of slabs (ribbed slab, solid slab, etc.), concrete roofs require more complex layers of insulation, and their heat retention capacity is enormous. They store the heat received during the day and release it at night. 4 - SOUNDPROOFING It is said, not without reason, that sheet metal roofs creak with expansion and allow the sound of rain to pass through. Although it may seem romantic to some, sheet metal roofs should not transmit noise. Although the joist and vault slab is more soundproof, good thermal insulation in sheet metal roofs plus glass wool reinforcement in the ceiling will make it practically soundproof. 5 - COSTS If we compare a finished roof slab (joist slab) with sheet metal roofs + insulation + ceiling, the numbers show that in the worst-case scenario: Covering with sheet metal roofs is 30% to 40% cheaper than doing so with reinforced concrete slabs or joists and vaults. FINAL CONCLUSIONS: ROOF METAL OR SLAB REINFORCEMENT Both joist and vault systems and roof metal sheets are proven and work well. But... If you don't plan to walk on the roof and don't plan to extend the house to the upper floor: Why build a solid, flat, heavy, and more expensive slab?
