Short lectures by the recipients of the Adams Fellowships for the 2026-2027 Academic Year: Jonathan Jung, Genetics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Yael Cohen, Physics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Aviezer Silverman, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Yeela Persky Vile, Chemistry at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Tommer David Keidar, Physical Chemistry at Tel Aviv University Maya Schlesinger, Computer Science at Tel Aviv University The fellowships were awarded at the annual Adams Seminar, which took place on June 23, 2026, at the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem, with the participation of Mr. Sylvan Adams, a Giving Pledge signatory who now lives in Israel, and President of the Israel Academy, Prof. David Harel. In the event, The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities Granted 14 Prestigious Adams Fellowships to Outstanding Doctoral Students in the Sciences for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 Academic Years. The awardees are in the vanguard of Israel’s future research in the natural sciences, life sciences, engineering, mathematics, data science, and computer science. Each year, the Adams Fellowship Program, endowed by the Adams Family Foundation in Canada and administered by the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, grants fellowships to doctoral students in the natural sciences, the life sciences, engineering, mathematics, data science, and computer science. Seven outstanding doctoral students have been awarded prestigious Adams Fellowships for the 2025-2026 academic year and an additional seven outstanding doctoral students have been awarded fellowships for the 2026-2027 academic year. Each recipient will receive an annual stipend of NIS 100,000 for each year of their doctoral studies, up to four consecutive years, and an additional travel stipend of up to USD $3,000 annually. The Adams Fellowships Program was founded by the late Marcel Adams, an passionate Zionist who was born in Romania in 1920 and escaped his internment in a Nazi labor camp during World War II. Marcel Adams immigrated to Israel and fought in its War of Independence. In 1951, he moved to Canada, where seven years later, he founded a real estate company called Iberville Developments. Over the years, Iberville Developments has expanded to manage more than 100 properties, including shopping centers, industrial facilities, and residential complexes. Marcel Adams established the Adams Fellowships Program in 2005 as a reciprocative gesture to the State of Israel, which offered him refuge after surviving the Holocaust.
