There were thunderstorms during the night, but the weather was good again this morning. I'm not taking the direct route, but instead making a detour to Fire Valley State Park. The entrance fee is $10 and it's worth every penny. I'm doing a 3 km loop hike to "The Flame Rock" and the Seven Wonders. Lightning flashes in the distance and the sky is completely black—what a backdrop! Luckily, the thunderstorm passes, and I only get a few drops of rain. Onward to the Hoover Dam. I take the toll road, but it's toll-free due to the shutdown. Along the way, I encounter a Tesla Cybertruck and stop for a photo session. Its owner has also come to the desert to take some drone photos and is very friendly. This allows me to take a good look at the vehicle and even take a comparison photo with the KLR. At the Hoover Dam, I pass through security without any problems. I declared my drone, but of course, it stays stowed away in my luggage. It's getting late, so I finally head to the Hotel Flamingo. A huge building, quite old, but in a great location. Finding a parking garage proves more difficult than expected. With my dusty, dirty motorcycle bags, I'm totally underdressed, but somehow also funny. The room on the 25th floor is very spacious, and from the bed, I have a direct view of the Sphere and the High Roller. What more could you want? October 10, 2025: Break from driving in Las Vegas After an expensive, not-so-good breakfast, I head straight to the pool. But the Americans are partying like crazy with a DJ and overpriced drinks (bad-looking cocktails between $30 and $50 depending on the size), so no relaxing or swimming for me. Around 3 a.m., a thunderstorm rolls in and lasts, with short breaks, until 8 p.m. So I take the monorail to the Sahara Hotel and from there an Uber to Fremont Street. At "Whiskey Licker Up at Binion's," I eat a delicious burger and drink two large beers. From here, I have a great view of the hustle and bustle on the street. The huge LED "sky" shows different music programs every hour. After Kathy Perry, I take an Uber and the monorail back to my hotel. Tomorrow is another driving day.
