Alcohol and Depression - Dr. Conor Farren 2013
Dr. Connor Farren talks about the relationship between the consumption of alcohol and depression. He explains the thinking behind the new terminolgy 'Alcohol Use Disorder' and the checklist of 11 criteria, 2 of which are needed to be diagnosed with AUD. Dr. Farren explains that mild depression is magnified by alcohol and that research proves that mood levels can significantly improve even after a break from alcohol of just 10 days. Dr. Farren talks about two of his recent publications and a treatment programme that he developed. He stresses that when alcohol misuse is involved both the alcohol dependency and depression must be treated.
