Starting at age 19, he worked as a carpenter, demolishing and repairing over 100 homes over the course of 10 years, gaining a deep understanding of the differences between durable and easily damaged homes. At age 29, he founded Hiramatsu Construction as a sole proprietorship. At age 32, he incorporated the company as Hiramatsu Construction Co., Ltd. He traveled to Germany to study home building to learn about energy-efficient and healthy living. Whenever an earthquake occurs, he travels to the site to gather information, making decisions about home building based on firsthand information. He continues to research home building practices in western Shizuoka Prefecture on a daily basis.
