Camping In Storm Otto in the Fjallraven Keb Endurance 3 Expedition Tent, Lake District UK
Camping In Storm Otto in the Fjallraven Keb Endurance 3 Expedition Tent, Lake District UK I head out to the Lake District National Park to test out the Fjallraven Keb Endurance 3 tent during Storm Otto, which was forecast to bring winds of 60-70mph to parts of Scotland. The Fjallraven Keb Endurance 3 is designed for extreme conditions and is often used for polar expeditions. The tent features 10mm DAC poles, strong and durable fabrics and extra thick dyneema guy lines - this thing is definitely over-engineered for extreme weather. Shout out to my good friend Mathias Lauridsen who very generously sent this tent over from Greenland for me to test out - this tent has already seen some pretty extreme use! I chose some relative shelter and stayed in one of my favourite places in the Lake District, Sykeisde camping park. A number of other people camped out too, but a number of tents were destroyed during the evening as the winds returned and were extremely strong. Many people pitched by a rock wall which afforded some shelter, however I deliberately chose an exposed spot on the high ground to see what this tent could handle. After a relative lull, the winds returned in the early hours and some of the gusts were extremely violent. I had to leave the tent to re-secure the guy lines as the soil is very shallow and I could not achieve good purchase. In the end, I found some rocks and used these to shore up the pegs at the front of the tent which were taking the brunt of the wind. The tent performed great and withstood some brutal winds which destroyed a number of other tents, with their occupants seeking shelter in their vehicles for the rest of the night. The groundsheet I used was for a different tent, so I overlooked the fact it was slightly larger than the footprint of the Keb, which meant the rain gathered and ran into the vestibule - one to remember for the future. A great adventure in our great outdoors and a safe and enjoyable way to experience the power of mother nature in a tent :-) If you would like to support MCM Outdoors, you can buy me a coffee (or a beer) below - everything goes back into bringing you more content: http://ko-fi.com/mcmoutdoors Follow me on Instagram: / mcm_outdoors A huge thanks to Mathias for passing down the tent ! *** Big shout out to my favourite campsite in the Lakes - SYKESIDE !!! - check out their link below and if you're after a top camping site in the Lakes, with the best views, walks from the site, PUB with ace home cook food on site - make sure to stay there: https://sykeside.co.uk/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LINKS Beanie hat I was wearing - Technicals 'Thunder' beanie: https://technicalsbrand.com/products/...
