Cómo sujetar el saxo alto - Lección 2-1

In this new lesson of the free saxophone course for beginners, we'll look at the best way to hold the instrument. You can find this lesson at La Escuela de Música at this link: http://laescuelademusica.net/, as well as many other lessons from other guitar, piano, and music theory courses. How to hold the alto saxophone. The instrument has three support points. One of them is the strap, which supports the weight of the instrument with the neck. If you have any neck problems or pain, you can choose to use a harness. We discussed this in the lesson for the baritone saxophone. This way, we can avoid unnecessary injuries or pain. The other two support points are the thumbs of both hands. The right thumb will be placed on the thumb hook. This hook is fixed, and the right thumb simply won't serve as support unless we use it to play. The other support point is located higher up, just below the octave key. It's a small black platform where the left thumb rests. Finger placement is important because this thumb will be acting on the octave key, and therefore will have to move frequently. Once we have located these three points and the instrument is strung, we need to feel that it is balanced. By gently pushing with our thumbs, we will notice that the instrument does not move. At the same time, the other fingers that are not supported are perfectly free and relaxed, allowing them to press the corresponding keys. If we notice any tension or discomfort, it means we are doing something wrong. Therefore, it will be necessary to check what is happening. In this position, the mouthpiece should be placed directly toward our lips, without having to force our neck or head position.
