Madrid, February 1936. While Antonio and many of his friends from the working classes celebrate the triumph of the Popular Front at an improvised street party, Andrea returns home in the company of his friend Consuelo. Her father, Don Fabián, the owner of a building materials company, is waiting for her there, and Andrea is in constant conflict with him because he does not allow her to study at university. Doña Loreto, her mother, manages to convince him to allow her to attend a drawing academy. There she meets Eduardo, a young painter with progressive ideas, although from an aristocratic family, with whom she discovers a world of freedom that her parents do not suspect and with whom she believes she is in love. Events take a turn for the worse. News of the military uprising arrives and while the supporters of the Republic take to the streets ready to defend it, Rodrigo, Andrea's brother, prepares with his men to neutralise the Reds. In this stupid skirmish, a tragic event takes place that brings Andrea and Antonio, a worker and son of the warehouse manager of Don Fabián's company, who has been fired from the factory for being an agitator, closer together.
