Inside the Academy: Episode 9 - OC Spray

"Inside the Academy" is a series following the Roanoke Police Academy Class 91 recruits as they learn what it takes to become a Police Officer in Roanoke, Virginia. In this episode, recruits are sprayed directly in the eyes with oleoresin capsicum spray, commonly referred to as pepper spray. Recruits must then navigate a series of obstacles and make an arrest before washing off the spray. The purpose of this exercise is to prepare them for a possible accidental exposure as well as to know how this chemical agent will affect offenders in the field.
