Dive on the wreck of SS Eleanor

The 1980 ton Eleanor was some 30 years old when she became another victim of Johannes Lohs & UB-57. In the early hours of 12th Feb Lohs fired a single torpedo which struck the Eleanor & caused a secondary explosion. She sank quickly with only one man surviving the attack. She was en route to the Mediterranean from Immingham with a cargo of mines & depth charges. The wreck off the Eleanor lies in about 40m of water about 10miles SSW of the Needles. Although she is quite broken up there is much evidence of the munitions cargo she was carrying.
