I have been listening to northern soul for over forty years and during that time I have compiled many cassettes, CD’s, DVD’s and memory sticks for personal use. Whilst recently compiling some one-hour long mixes that I use whilst exercising, I thought that rather than actually compiling themed mixes, it would be nice to select tracks randomly and simply play them in alphabetical order. This has resulted in me listening to tracks that I honestly haven’t played in years and it has been quite refreshing to re-visit them. I have therefore put several thousand titles into a list and then blindly selected one hour’s worth and mixed them into alphabetical order. Once a title has been selected it is removed from the list in order to prevent duplications. This has resulted in mixes that include any combinations of the following genres in various amounts: - Stompers, Floaters, Shufflers, Beat Ballads, Oldies, Newies, Modern, R&B, 70’s Youth Club, Crossover, Alternative Versions, Instrumentals, Tailor-Made’s, and a few northern-like tracks of my own choosing. Phew! Expect the usual suspects but also expect the unexpected! I have compiled about 30 of these so far and if there is enough interest I'll post a few more. Keep The Faith and enjoy.....
