everest brass baja making street parade for a wedding July 31st 2013

The Everest Brass Baja is a wonderful street band based in Kumaripati, a part of Lalitpur across the river from Kathmandu. They play about seventy weddings a year, but July is not part of wedding season as a rule. I was fortunate to catch them in Sanepa. Here they are leading the parade. The bride & groom and parents are in a decorated car. The men follow the band, and the women, all in their finest sari, walk behind. There is a certain exuberance to the way the men dance at these things. Okay, so this was the Everest Brass Baja. The event started with a long puja in Sanepa, and then a parade. At one point we were on the Ring Road, snarling traffic. Then we all boarded the bus to New Baneshwor. "Yes, there is room," they told me. "Welcome to our wedding!" One guy shouted as I climbed on. it wasn't simple the wedding of the groom - it was the wedding of the whole family which is a beautiful thought.
