In 1370, king Louis of Anjou gave the castle (along with the district and the nearby castle in Bobolice) as a fief to duke Władysław II of Opole. During the wars of Opole with King Władysław Jagiełło, the castle in Mirów was captured by royal forces during the campaign of 1396. Originally, it was a small brick watchtower, probably administratively subordinate to the castle in nearby Bobolice. From the end of the 14th century, the castle remained in the hands of private owners, who carried out subsequent reconstructions. In 1501, Mirów castle became the family seat of the Myszkowski family of the Jastrzębiec coat of arms, who significantly expanded it: the one-story castle was raised by two more storeys, the tower (from then on serving residential functions) was also raised and the lower castle was built. During the Swedish Deluge, the castle was badly damaged by invading troops. Although later owners began to rebuild it, Mirów Castle was finally abandoned around 1787. The unsecured ruin fell into disrepair, exploited by local residents looking for building materials (in 1937, the southwestern wall of the rectangular tower collapsed). The castle was secured as a permanent ruin only in the 1960s. Currently, further reconstruction works are underway at the initiative of the private owner.
