Wonder and Awe: Albatrosses

Each November, Laysan albatrosses arrive on Kauai to nest, or to find a mate. Mated pairs sit close together and are very affectionate with each other. They practice their courtship dances. Albatrosses often mate for life. Most albatrosses breed on remote islands, such as Midway Island in the Pacific. Kauai is the only place in the world where you can meet albatrosses in a residential neighborhood. In February 2026, I was lucky to be able to visit Kauai and photograph them.
