In this video, I'll be providing a tutorial on the Wira Pertiwi Dance. The movements in this dance originate from Java, specifically Yogyakarta. The Wira Pertiwi dance's movement patterns are derived from Javanese female dances depicting figures such as the Srikandi and Mustokoweni. The Wira Pertiwi dance is a new creation depicting the heroic figure of a Javanese female warrior. As a dance with a military or heroic theme, the Wira Pertiwi dance uses props like a gendewa (a kind of puppet) and arrows to emphasize the theme. The gendewa is held/carried by the dancer throughout the dance. This dance is a new creation recently created by a Yogyakarta-based artist, Bagong Kussudiardjo.
