From childhood, Libério had to help his father by guiding oxen. In 1902, the family moved to Mateus Leme, where Libério worked as a bricklayer's assistant. At the age of twenty-two, he entered the seminary in Mariana, and was ordained on March 20, 1916, by Archbishop Dom Silvério Gomes Pimenta. Having died in Divinópolis on December 21, 1980, his tomb is located in the city of Leandro Ferreira in the Parish Church of São Sebastião. A small museum has been installed in this city that tells part of his story. Because of his pious life and several miracles attributed to him, he is popularly considered a saint in the Central-West region of Minas Gerais. Although not canonized, his tomb is a place of pilgrimage. Recently, events have been organized to raise funds to finance the religious figure's canonization process. The religious figure's birth date is commemorated annually with a municipal holiday and various activities.
