This video illustrates the physiology of the inner ear (cochlea). The inner ear contains hair cells, which are the actual sound receptors. The movement of the intracochlear fluid causes the basilar membrane to move, which causes the hair cells' cilia to deflect as they rub against the tectorial membrane.
