Today we tested the KTM 390 Adventure R from the guys at Meschini. A mid-displacement track bike that made me feel like a true Dakar Rally rider with its Dakar-inspired styling. As its name "Adventure" suggests, it's in its element off-road, where the bike performs exceptionally well and you can have a blast. When it hits the asphalt, it still performs well, but it's not the most comfortable ride compared to its direct competitors, like the 450MT from the Chinese brand. Good power and top speed, excellent equipment and electronics, and economical fuel consumption... but it has a lot of vibration in the handlebars and footpegs (noticeable after a few kilometers on the road at a constant speed). It's very tall (like any trail designed more for off-road riding), and its suspension is a bit stiff after several hours of use on asphalt. As I said, it's not that the bike is "bad" for use on asphalt; on the contrary, it's very well-equipped electronically, has an excellent engine and is comfortable, but I feel that it's not the environment where it performs best.
