A passameter (another name is a lever clamp) is a device for relatively accurate measurements of the outer diameter of certain types of parts. An adjustable clamp is made and calibrated with Iohann plates (otherwise, end measures of lengths) in accordance with the requirements of GOST 11098-75. The tool is used to measure parts as accurately as possible, for example, in production, when constant control over dimensions is required. The thickness and length of various objects (the error in any measurement does not exceed 1 or 2 microns), in our case the accuracy is 2 microns or 2 thousandths of a mm. In fact, a passameter is a type of micrometer. The main difference from a micrometer is the presence of a scale. Well, here's a slightly different principle. The micrometer has a screw scale. The passameter can only be used to measure the external dimensions of parts. The tool is designed to control, first of all, the deviation from the required tolerances. The cost of passameters is quite high, for this reason, as well as because of their narrow specialization, they are used only in serious industrial enterprises. Interesting?
