Corset Cording Tutorial | Step-by-Step Sewing Technique

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create cording for corsets using a professional, step-by-step technique. Cording is a technique where narrow cords are inserted into stitched channels in the fabric. It adds structure, support, and a beautiful textured finish to corsets. Unlike boning, which creates a rigid shape, cording provides a softer and more flexible form of support while still helping the garment hold its structure. Cording started to be widely used in corsetry during the 19th century, as corset makers looked for alternatives to heavy whalebone and steel boning. It allowed garments to be lighter, more comfortable, and more wearable for everyday use, while still maintaining shaping and support. Over time, it also became a decorative technique, adding depth and detail to corset designs. This technique can also be used for other structured garments, bodices, and decorative sewing projects.
