Why I Don’t Believe There’s One Right Way to Paint

If you’d like to explore more of my teaching and process videos, you can find my Patreon here:   / ohnmarwin   I think a lot of people come to painting feeling that there must be a right way to do it.There are so many guidelines, so many finished pieces online, and it can start to feel like you’re meant to follow a particular method In this video, I revisit a process I originally shared with my Patreon group, using the same tulip subject to explore two different approaches - one kept quite simple with watercolour and ink, and another built up further using mixed media. This isn’t about one approach being better than the other. It’s about recognising that you do have options. Sometimes keeping things simple is enough. Sometimes taking it further teaches you something new. And even when something doesn’t turn out how you expected, it isn’t wasted - it’s all part of learning how you like to work. A lot of what I share, both here and on Patreon, is about helping you grow in your creativity in a way that feels natural, curious, and sustainable. If this resonated with you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
