Carlos Herrera vs Federico Jiménez Losantos 'Dos mundos al encuentro' Foro EL MUNDO mod. AR Quintana

AUDIO: http://www.ivoox.com/carlos-herrera-v... FULL video of 'Two Worlds Meet'. The EL MUNDO Forum that brought together Carlos Herrera (Cadena Cope) and Federico Jiménez Losantos (esRadio) and was moderated by Ana Rosa Quintana to discuss current events in Spain on April 28, 2016 - Losantos's confidences to Herrera about Iglesias that made Ana Rosa blush The COPE and esRadio hosts engaged in a heated debate about current political affairs in the presence of the "queen" of Telecinco, a debate that sparked quite a few confessions. Carlos Herrera and Federico Jiménez Losantos faced off in a debate moderated by Ana Rosa Quintana and organized by Unidad Editorial and the newspaper El Mundo: the event promised plenty of memorable moments, and it certainly delivered. The debate, "Two Roosters Who Awaken Spain," held at the Bertelsmann Space, was attended by well-known figures from journalism such as David Jiménez, Arcadi Espada, and Hermann Tertsch, as well as politicians like Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo and Pablo Casado. And the two heavyweights of radio did not disappoint, offering headlines and anecdotes when analyzing current events. They agreed on some points, such as their fear of Podemos, and highlighted their differences on others, such as their assessment of the PP leader, Mariano Rajoy. While Losantos harshly criticized the acting Prime Minister for his handling of the Catalan challenge, Herrera asserted that he was the "most unfairly underrated politician in Spain" and argued that "he's had to live through a cursed era" but "has resolved some problems that could have led to even greater misfortunes." Where they did fully agree was in their criticism of Podemos. The COPE radio host considered that "their ideology seemed outdated to me, from when I was at university," while the Es Radio host went so far as to call Pablo Iglesias's party "communist garbage," after jokingly recalling his youthful activism on the left: "In Spain, there was nothing but the Movement, which was stagnant, and the Party, which was divided. I'm sixty years old, and I'm reminded of that my whole life. The PCE I knew and its people were extraordinary. It's nothing like the communist garbage of today." The Andalusian journalist added that the leaders of Podemos "have a very appealing performance; they know very well who they are addressing—the young, lanky students who populate universities, the people who are having a hard time and believe in easy solutions—and they use a very well-crafted television studio presentation. I think Podemos is a phenomenon in decline: sooner or later, you see the truth." Losantos then recalled the two times he appeared with Iglesias on the Intereconomía program "El gato al agua": "I told him: 'You're pretending to be a Nazarene, but you're Barabbas, and you remind me of myself when I was an idiot.'" Herrera expressed surprise at the "sudden pro-communism that has taken hold in Spain," which he attributed, among other things, to the work of the media, especially television: "Featuring Pablo Iglesias gives the networks ratings and money," he added, criticizing the work of certain groups within the industry: "There is a certain professional indecency in some media outlets, some programs, and some communication professionals when it comes to addressing the truth by distorting it," he concluded. Jiménez Losantos was also highly critical of television's role in shaping political information because "in Spain there is no freedom of radio or television because they depend on political concessions." Among the anecdotes was the story of the PSOE pin worn by Carlos Herrera, a gift from the Socialist Party's general secretary, Pedro Sánchez. This detail prompted him to joke that "my character is changing: I'm much more open to dialogue, I now refer to them as 'they' and 'she,' citizens..." and added that "being a social democrat is magnificent because you always come across well; the bad thing is when you're a liberal: you have to spend all day giving explanations." Regarding Sánchez, he asserted that "the elections were foreseeable since December 21st" because "the central figure in the possible combinations," which in his opinion was the PSOE leader, "wasn't about to form the only party that could have a sensible influence in Europe and on Spain's interests." The best thing about holding new elections, according to Losantos, is that "they won't be talking to us about new or old politics."
