Historically, this P wave is called a P-mitral. Left Ventricular Hypertrophy LV hypertrophy occurs in response to increased pressure within the LV, for example, in hypertension or aortic valve stenosis. On the ECG, this is manifested by increased R-wave amplitude in the "left" leads (I, aVL, and V4-V6) and increased S-wave depth in the "right" leads (III, aVR, V1-V3). Thickening of the LV walls leads to prolonged depolarization (manifested by an increased R-wave rise time) and altered repolarization (changes in the T-wave and ST segment in the lateral leads).
