The Most Captivating Mushrooms I`ve Ever Photographed

Join me on a woodland macro photography adventure! 🍄📸 This fall I set out deep into one of my local forests, searching for unique mushrooms to photograph — especially two bucket list subjects: the iconic red Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) and the fascinating coral mushroom. Armed with my Nikon Z7, the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, a Manfrotto Element II tripod, and two portable RGB LED lights, I’ll show you how I capture detailed, low-angle macro shots in a natural woodland setting. Along the way, I’ll share my tips for: Finding and framing mushrooms in challenging light 🌲 Working around fallen trees and mossy forest floors Using artificial light to enhance natural textures and colors Building a storytelling sequence through images The journey starts slow — with plenty of fungi but not the ones I seek. Then things get exciting: I discover clusters of mushrooms growing on a giant fallen tree, encounter some striking but imperfect Fly Agarics, and finally stumble across one of my bucket list finds — the coral mushroom.
