Peter Curley, Kilmore, Tuam, Co Galway - The Family Dresser
This dresser belongs to 73-year-old Peter Curley, who believes it originally belonged to his grandfather. It was moved a few yards from the old thatched cottage to the current house in the mid-1960s. Peter remembers the doors were added while they were still in the cottage, by a local carpenter named Bert Loftus. It was common to add glass doors to older dressers in the 1950s and '60s. If you look closely, you can see the old holders for the plate laths just behind the doors. I love the layers of paint here, quickly applied by Peter when he knew I was coming. Note the classic three-panel doors, a feature often seen in Galway.
