However, you have no choice; if your product is tech-related, you must be able to develop it in-house, with your team: you must master your core value proposition. This is a delicate issue because the IT job market is tight, and it's a very risky gamble for developers to leave the easy path with a good salary to venture into a fledgling project led by an unknown. Furthermore, at the outset, funding is often limited, and the compensation offer will be unattractive. There are four main reasons why a typical developer might refuse: 1. The project doesn't excite them: they have a negative perception of it, the mission or values don't resonate with them, the project's field seems unappealing, or they don't believe in the project's success and therefore don't think they'll be able to earn a decent living in the long run. 2. The project isn't technically interesting: not all developers are looking for the same thing, and a good developer will often seek a technical challenge. Therefore, it's possible that your project isn't technically stimulating for them, that the technical area to be addressed doesn't interest them, that they simply consider the idea technically unfeasible, or that it's work outside their area of expertise and ambition. 3. They don't think they can take ownership of the project: you come with a fixed and rigid idea, and they don't see where they fit in or how they can make it their own. They perceive the future relationship as an executor role, whereas they aspire to actively participate in the direction and strategy. Alternatively, the proposed percentage of ownership doesn't seem to reflect the level of commitment and leadership they want to take on. 4. You're not looking in the right place: your candidate pool is far too small, and you simply need to persevere a little longer; you're looking at the wrong source and asking for profiles unsuitable for the job; or you're limiting yourself to a local search, close to home, when in this era of fully remote work, you could be working with talent beyond your city, in your region, across your country, or even around the world. In this playing field, it's hard not to find the perfect candidate. In any case, convincing your first partners is the first phase of selling your project. Failing to interest a single person should make you question yourself and re-evaluate your approach, both in terms of form and substance. When no one wants to join your project, it can't always be someone else; there's bound to be a problem on your end as well. Finally, if no one is joining you, learn to code or dive into no-code! It's become very accessible today, and sometimes it's a necessary step to take a bigger leap forward. If it all comes down to money, it can be tempting to start by raising funds in order to then attract talent with good salaries. However, be warned: raising funds for a technology project without a dedicated technical lead on your team is a very risky gamble and could waste even more of your time unnecessarily. In any case, don't outsource your tech; find a developer or become one yourself!
