The Wheelie is the Most Important Wheelchair Skill: Wheelie Across the Farm With Me!

A wheelie isn't a trick — it's the most important outdoor mobility skill most wheelchair users are never properly taught. Here's why it matters, and how to start. I'm a C7–T1 wheelchair user of 22 years and a licensed occupational therapist, so you get this from both sides: what the clinic teaches, and what two decades of actually living it taught me. I filmed this at the farm I grew up on, home for my grandfather's 100th birthday — on the same gravel, grass, and barn thresholds I knew before my injury. In this video I break down what a wheelie actually is, why your front casters turn into the enemy the second the pavement ends, how to start learning it safely, and how to build from your first balance point to holding and traveling in a wheelie. ⚠️ Learn this safely: get solid on smooth, flat ground first, keep your anti-tip bars on, use a spotter, and work with your own OT or PT. This video is general education, not individual medical advice. 🔔 Subscribe for honest, practical wheelchair wellness from a peer who's also a clinician. #wheelchair #spinalcordinjury #wheelchairskills #SCI #wheelchairlife #wheelie #adaptivemobility #occupationaltherapy #disability #wheelchairwellness
