🏰 Before the Ship, We Found One of the Most Beautiful Cities of the Trip 🇮🇹🚢 | Along the Mediterranean Roads #5 When we left Siena, our destination was the port of Civitavecchia, where we would embark on our long-awaited Mediterranean cruise. But an unexpected discovery completely transformed that day. While researching the route, I stumbled upon photos of a small town called Bolsena. There were no major tourist advertisements or expectations. Just a few images that sparked our curiosity. We decided to change our route and go there. It was one of the best decisions of the trip. We stayed in a hotel facing Lake Bolsena, a place so vast and beautiful that, at many moments, it seemed more like the sea than a lake. Giant trees framed the landscape and made us imagine what it would be like to take a piece of that beauty home. Exploring the walled city, we felt like we were stepping into a medieval movie. Cobblestone streets, narrow alleys, historic walls, endless staircases, and breathtaking views around every corner. The climb was a real adventure for Filipe. 😄 We also discovered a wonderful trattoria specializing in fish from the lake. The food was simply spectacular and became one of the most memorable gastronomic experiences of the trip. The narrow streets only allowed passage for pedestrians and scooters. Huge pots of Sicilian lemons decorated the facades, and at nightfall, lanterns illuminated with small lights transformed the city into a magical scene. On the way back to the car, we faced the famous saga of the steps and another fun discussion to figure out which was the right way. And, of course, this time I was right. 😄 The next morning we visited a motorhome campsite located practically opposite the hotel, a place that immediately made it onto our list of places we'd like to return to someday. Although Bolsena had become one of the most beautiful cities we've ever visited, it was time to move on. The ship awaited us. Upon boarding, we were greeted with a toast and began exploring that true floating world. Restaurants, boutiques, bowling alley, arcade games, gym, sports courts, swimming pools, and social areas occupied every corner of the vessel. One of the areas that impressed us most was the central avenue covered by a huge illuminated canopy, where that night a lively party was taking place with music from the 70s and 80s. We also discovered special restaurants, exclusive areas, and premium experiences that were part of additional packages. But, honestly, there was so much to do and see that we didn't miss anything.
