Das 4 Millionen Teile Puzzle - Ein Airbus in der Inspektion

Hangar 8 at Düsseldorf Airport. This is where LTU's wide-body jets undergo their inspections. The C-check office is a hive of activity. In just a few minutes, a large Airbus A330 will land. The 169-ton, 63-meter-long aircraft is to be almost completely disassembled for inspection. The giant bird is scheduled to fly again in four weeks. For the 15-person team of mechanics and engineers, this means round-the-clock stress and work. Everything has to be removed – seats, screws, oxygen masks, paneling, the outer skin, and engines. The cockpit instruments and flight computer are also tested. Even checking the on-board entertainment system for software errors can be a daunting task with around 300 seats. Everything is thoroughly checked, repaired, and reassembled. It's an expensive undertaking, as a C-check costs approximately 1.5 million euros. “The big report” looks behind the scenes of Hangar 8 at Düsseldorf Airport and shows what happens when an Airbus 330 has to go into the workshop.
