Life After Cornea Transplant

A cornea transplant is a surgical procedure to replace damaged cornea with healthy donor tissue. It may take a year or longer to fully recover and get back normal vision. Eye may be covered with an eye pad or plastic shield, which will be removed in follow-up visit. The eye patch must be worn when you shower and sleep. When washing hair, push your head back so that water can flow backwards off your head. Wear glasses or other protective eyewear to help protect your eyes. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting and pushing anything heavier. Refrain from reading and watching television for at least 10 days. Walks or short rides are allowed after 1 week. Running and jogging must be avoided for at least 2 weeks. Refrain from sleeping on your stomach or on your operated side.
