Nevertire, Nyngan and Brewarrina -free camping with a dog -3,400 road trip#travellingaustralia

This stretch of our 3,400km NSW outback journey takes us through Nevertire, Nyngan, Brewarrina and Coolabah in our vintage Windsor caravan, with our dog along for every dusty kilometre. We’re still travelling light and living small, but the stories and scenery just keep getting bigger. We stop in Nevertire to admire a striking water tank mural that captures the spirit of the land in bold colour and detail. In Coolabah, we stumble across the story of Arthur Hall, a local soldier whose bravery earned him the Victoria Cross and a place in Australia’s military history. It’s a powerful reminder of the depth tucked inside even the smallest towns — and yes, we also found one of the best sausage rolls of the trip. Along the way, we review more free campsites, including peaceful riverside spots that offer shade, space and a welcome break from the road.
