Retained tampons are actually more common then you think! A lot of times patients will remember they didn't take it out when they start to get an abnormal discharge and odor! Of course, it is always important to rule out TSS, but majority of patients do well. It is always better to be safe than sorry, and come into the clinic whenever there is any doubt.
