Szlak 3 schronisk w Beskidzie Żywieckim - Hala Boracza, Hala Lipowska, Rysianka
We invite you to watch our report from the trip along the trail of three mountain huts in the Żywiec Beskids! This is a beautiful full-day hike through the trails of the Żywiec Beskids: passing the PTTK mountain hut on Hala Boracza, the PTTK mountain hut on Hala Lipowska, and the PTTK mountain hut on Rysianka. There's even a chain-linked trail along the way. Trip details: Hala Boracza is a vast, open clearing located at an altitude of approximately 850 meters above sea level, serving as the starting point and first mountain hut on our loop through three sites in the Żywiec Beskids. Starting in Żabnica – with convenient bus access from Węgierska Górka and several parking options – we follow the black trail towards the PTTK mountain hut. Along the way, we pass the charming chapel of St. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, built in 1951, where masses are celebrated in the summer, and a little further on, we come across a bear warning sign – a reminder that the Żywiec Beskids, although less known for their large wildlife population, harbor several brown bear dens. The approach to the shelter is relatively easy: initially, via asphalt, then a gravel road or rocky path – making it accessible even for families with strollers. The history of the shelter dates back to 1926 and a tragic fire, after which a modern brick building with electricity and a telephone line was built in 1932. Today, the shelter offers hot meals, accommodations, and views of the Silesian and Moravian-Silesian Beskids, inviting visitors for their first longer stop on the route. Hala Redykalna, situated at an altitude of approximately 1,067 meters above sea level, is another grazing clearing, reached from Hala Boracza by a green and black trail through dense, low-growing forest. The name "redyk" refers to the act of leading sheep to the pastures – a shepherding tradition dating back to the Vlachs of the Balkans. After a short ascent along the forest path, sweeping panoramas of the Romanka and Malá Fatra Mountains open up before us, inviting us to take a break. It's the perfect place for a sip of hot tea and preparing for the next stage of the hike towards Hala Bacmańska. Hala Bacmańska, located just before Hala Bieguńska, is one of the most exposed spots on the trail, from where, on clear days, you can see the snow-capped peaks of Malá Fatra and the distant Low Tatras, over 70 km away. After a short descent through sections of the forest, we reach Hala Bieguńska. From there, leisurely strolling through picturesque clearings with sections of the trail muddy from the thaw, we head towards the PTTK mountain shelter on Hala Lipowska. Built in 1931 by the German Beskidenverein, this shelter captivates with its highland architecture, rich history, and agritourism atmosphere: from a campsite with a bonfire area, to a sauna and playing field, and a ski lift operating in winter. For over half a century, it was managed by Maria Gowin. The PTTK mountain shelter on Hala Rysianka, just 15 minutes from Hala Lipowska, is a true junction of trails – the red Main Beskid Trail, the yellow, green, and black. Built in 1937, the facility offers a cozy buffet, accommodations, and terraced tables with views of the Tatra Mountains, Pilsko, Romanka, and the ancient forests of the Romanka nature reserve. It was here that we ate the famous apple pie before the final stage of the loop: a short descent along the black trail through "Słowianka" to the parking lot in Żabnica. Along the way, we encountered chains protecting a section of the Main Beskid Trail – a rarity outside the Tatra Mountains – and wild forests harboring wolves, lynx, and a few bears. Despite being over 20 km long and having 900 m of elevation gain, this loop through three mountain huts is the essence of the Żywiec Beskids: it guarantees spectacular views, a wealth of historical stories, and the taste of a true mountain hike.
