Sovereign (Live) // House of Misfits

The 2 year process of writing “Sovereign” is special because of what we were journeying through as individuals. While we were going through tough times in our own lives, as a creative collective, we found strength in each other and from within that space of whanaungatanga. ‘Sovereign’ was, and still is, our response. As we came together during lockdown, we knew that ‘Ko Ihu Tōku Taunga’ and ‘Sovereign’ were the songs that needed to be heard. A few zoom sessions during level 4 and 3 lockdown and two rehearsals later, we found ourselves at St Paul’s Auckland, recording with limited gear but plenty of people who were keen to see what God could do with our 2 loaves and 5 fish. You’ll hear the sound of buses and cars in the background. You’ll hear sniffs, coughs, sobs and off notes. You’ll even see us trying to remember the lyrics (2 short rehearsals can only get us so far haha). But the heart is there. It’s real, it’s raw, and while our musical imperfections may be exposed, it’s outweighed by the deep connection with our Creator. For those of us in the space, it was evident that God was doing something extraordinary in us. For that reason, we want to share this special extended version of ‘Sovereign’ with you. (Radio version now available on all streaming platforms).
