Severe Mitral Stenosis with Massive LA Thrombus | Echo

Echocardiographic demonstration of severe mitral stenosis complicated by a massive thrombus in the left atrium. The video sequentially demonstrates: 1. Parasternal long-axis view Initial assessment of the mitral valve and left atrium. 2. Slight transducer angulation from the parasternal long-axis view This modified view improves visualization of the thrombotic mass within the left atrium. 3. Parasternal short-axis view at the level of the mitral valve A markedly narrowed stenotic mitral valve orifice is clearly demonstrated, consistent with severe mitral stenosis. 4. Short-axis view at the level of the aortic valve The left atrial thrombus is also visualized in this plane. 5. Apical four-chamber view Additional assessment of the cardiac chambers, mitral valve, and left atrial mass. The echocardiographic findings are consistent with severe mitral stenosis associated with a large left atrial thrombus. This is a clinically significant finding due to the high risk of systemic thromboembolic complications. This video is intended for educational purposes and demonstrates characteristic echocardiographic features of severe mitral stenosis and left atrial thrombosis.
